I tried to run azap but found I didn't have a channels.conf file and the wiki article I was working from had a dead link for it.  If you can give me a bit of instruction, I can probably get to trying it out this week with the known bad kernel. I know that dvb-fe-tool -m -v would just continuously report back "SYNC (0xb)".  That code return code may be wrong, I'm going by memory on that one.
