[mythtv-users] Complication(s) with display upgrade - need help

Many thanks to all for the inputs so far.

In the meantime, I managed to get the on-board Nvidia graphics (whatever
version it is) to display MythTV on the TV. But it had no sound.

I went back and looked at the listing for the adapter cable I purchased,
and the listing explicitly stated audio wasn't supported, so even if I have
or can configure the DVI port to include audio, the DVI to HDMI adapter
cable won't pass it along.

I dug out a PCI Nvidia Graphics GeForce 8400 card that had DVI on it and
finally got that working to display video, too, but again no audio for the
same reason(s).

I found a couple of alternatives and am leaning towards this one

to combine silent DVI video with analog audio if the remaining issue can be
resolved with the current equipment, otherwise I guess it's time to upgrade
the FE.

The remaining issue is that when I tried playing a video "silently", I
noticed with the GeF 8400 adapter that the video acts like it's coming from
a slow ethernet connection -- jumpy, slow-motion video, although I don't
think that the ethernet connection is really the problem. Might be but
doubt it -- I'll investigate that tomorrow. Might be that the PCI bus
bandwidth limits things too much? If this slow, jumpy playback rings any
bells and there's another likely cause with a fix, I'd love to hear more.
I will also try to revert to the on-board video adapter and try a "silent"
video to see if that behaves differently (again, tomorrow) since I didn't
pay attention to that before. I would expect the latter to be worse about
the playback quality, but...
