So what is in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc?

When I tried this setup, I used NODM_XSESSION=/home/mythtv/.xinitrc
and for the record, /home/mythtv/.xinitrc needs to executable.
For my setup, it contains:

xset -dpms
xsetroot -solid black
xset s off
ratpoison &
#nvidia-settings
#nvidia-settings -l &
sleep 4
mythfrontend -v system -O FFMPEGTS=1 --syslog local7 --loglevel notice
2>> /home/mythtv/myth-errors.txt

IIRC, the sleep was there to ensure the frontend didn't start before the
network was up, it may or may not be necessary on your setup.
