I have a similar situation, DVI->HDMI adapator and Sony Bravia
KDL-50W800B.  On this model at least, one of the HDMI inputs (HDMI 3)
is marked "Computer" or similar (the label is covered by the cable,
and the TV is in use).  For that input, the TV automatically takes the
video from the HDMI and audio from a 3.5mm stereo jack.
