OK, I have that set now and it's working again. I had reconnected to
the internet and found it difficult to relocate the configuration screen
for the local link after swapping cables again. It's not the first time
I've found wicd unpredictable - but as I remember it I never got Network
Manager working at all.
Thanks for the correction.
