[mythtv-users] does the backend need root privileges?

I am using OpenSUSE 12.1. It has an init script for MythTV, but it seems
to be not complete, this init script does not work. I start MythTV by
hand so far.

There is no mythtv user on openSUSE. When started, the backend keeps
root rights.
