Hi;

You don't mention your distribution, however it's most likely *started*
by the root user (e.g. out of an init script or some configuration file.)

The backend should then *run* as the mythtv user. That may be done by
a configuration file or, with the --user mythtv switch (and if --user is
used, then the backend must be started by root to allow changing the userid.)
