the BD burner won't change playback ability (which the current status
can be found by searching this mailinglist via gossamer-threads), all
it will add is to allow you to burn Blu-Ray discs. If this is
something you want then purchase it. They do have Blu-Ray drives that
will burn DVD discs but not Blu-Ray discs, though I don't know what
the incremental cost structure is exactly.
