[mythtv-users] Blu-Ray Drives and MythTV

Looking for help from those using Blu-Ray drives:

I have upgraded my BE with a new MB which has no IDE ports; therefore, my
DVD ROM/burner is no longer of any use.  I am considering replacing it with
a Blu-Ray burner but am hesitant to spend the extra dollars if I can only
use it for DVDs.  I know there has been a lot of activity in 0.24 and
pre-0.25 to support BD but my question is:

Will I be able to play rented Blu-Ray disks through MythTV?

If not, (besides backups) what benefit would I receive by spending the extra
money on a BD burner vs a DVD burner?
