Using this information, shouldn't it be possible to create the dvd in a
way that the default movie would then automatically skip the commercials
by arranging the chapter order? You would still have the commercials on
the dvd in unreferenced chapters, but you would still get captions and
the movie would play straight through.
I got bit by the fact that lossless transcoding in mythtv actually
strips out the vbi when the various streams are broken apart, cut, and
then put back together, and we had to watch several shows without
captions. I have the same issue when transcoding to DVDs.
Disk is cheap in comparison to getting a high WAF, so transcoding is
simply not used in our house, as captions are just short of mandatory.
