Yes, that's fine.  But he's the one who wanted to control his toaster 
from mythconfig and that is just silly.

It really does depend on what angle your looking at it from doesn't it?  
If your looking at it from an appliance point of view then it's a STB 
style unit sat there doing 'stuff', /etc/mtyhconfig is more than enough 
because it's "factory set no user serviceable parts" and all of the 
points are valid. 

If your looking at it from an A/V network element pov then things are 
very different and the DB becomes essential most of the points (other 
than the QT needing a big stick taken to it about those high res check 
boxes) become invalid because you're expecting something reasonably 
advanced and not big on friendliness to drop on your door step and that 
is pretty much what you get.

Now, I ask you, in simple terms what is wrong with a punt towards 
friendliness in the configuration sections of the program?   Because 
that's pretty much what the OP was talking about to my mind.
