Hauppauge and other Linux-supporting vendors definitely do not view
Linux users as a "bunch of pirates", but they probably are aware that
others take that view.

The new Hauppauge device does nothing that could not be done before,
it just provides the means to do some things for less cost than
previous devices. This is simply progress.

I don't think it's "paranoia" to at least consider negative actions by
outfits that have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to try and
put a teenager in prison, sued computer users that the courts have
determined they knew (or should have known) to be innocent of any
wrongdoing and supported the clandestine installation of rootkits on
people's machines.

Forewarned is forearmed.
