I just got my IR Blaster receiver today, plugged it in and, Wa-La! Success. I can now move around using the remote, so I'm very happy. It'll take some getting used to, mainly learning what buttons do what, etc., but this was a major hurdle for me. However, there are to things that I saw that I thought someone might have some info on.

First, when I go the my videos section, I can change the Parental control level by pushing the desired level on the remote and entering the PIN (pressing 4 then the PIN). However, there are 2 options on that screen that say "MENU - Options" and "INFO - Actions". These 2 option don't seem to map to any button on my remote. Any ideas on how I can get these 2 options mapped?

Second, when I actually play a video, it plays with Xine. I can pause, fast forward, etc., but when I stop the video, I want to have Xine exit out and go back to the front end. This doesn't happen. The Xine splash screen stays up, and I have to ssh into the box and kill the process. Any thoughts on how to do this more gracefully?

Thanks,
Harry

Harry,

What kind of remote do you have? The Harmony remotes rarely work out of box and you have to customize them.

I have a Harmony 676 which has been programmed with TivoS2 buttons.
I have customized the configuration of the remote so that all the buttons send signals from the TivoS2 pool.
I then customized the lircd.conf renaming the buttons and then created my own lircrc file.

I have a Logitech Harmony 550, and I programmed it to control my Comcast STB, TV, DVD Recorder, stereo receiver, and a Hauppauge 350 for my Myth box. I used the lircrc file that a friend gave me, as he has the Hauppauge 350 himself. All of the Myth buttons seem to work well, except for those 2 minor issues with the Videos menu and Xine.

Thanks,
Harry

Harry,

Start ‘irw’ and press those 2 buttons. You should get something like

00000000a10c6807 00 DOWN Tivo_S2
00000000a10c6807 01 DOWN Tivo_S2
00000000a10c6807 02 DOWN Tivo_S2
00000000a10c6807 03 DOWN Tivo_S2
00000000a10c2807 00 UP Tivo_S2
00000000a10c2807 01 UP Tivo_S2
00000000a10c2807 02 UP Tivo_S2
00000000a10c2807 03 UP Tivo_S2

But your should have “Hauppauge 350” at the end instead of Tivo_S2
Check your lircrc file for the “UP” or “DOWN” next to the Hauppauge 350, yours might be Menu and Video.
If they are not in the lircrc file a then they are not programmed to perform any actions.

On the other hand.. If your IRW window does not report anything when you press those buttons that means that they are not defined in the lircd.conf file.

Marc

I just ran irw and pressed the Menu and Info keys. I go Menu/i 3 times when I pressed the Menu key and Asterix 3 times when I pressed the Info key. The Menu/i key is in my lircrc file, so I'm not really sure why the event is being triggered. The Asterix key isn't so I assume I'll have to add it, but I don't know exactly how.

I'm attaching my lircrc file and /etc/lircd.conf file. Can you take a peek and see if anything looks strange? I don't know much about them, truthfully, so I may have overlooked something.

Thanks,
Harry
