You can get ppc rpms for xine and vlc from freshrpms.

This might solve your problems with the videos you have, but may not
help with recordings.

I found this about building an fglrx kernel module:

You may be able to find fglrx packages from livna.

Or I believe that Ubuntu Dapper and Edgy PPC support fglrx, but that
would mean scrapping your FC5 installation.

Unfortunately, I have very little experience with linux on PPC
hardware. My only experience with ATI video is on an x86 laptop with
built-in Radeon. Ubuntu runs fglrx without problem, and the notebook
runs Myth frontend with no problems.
