[mythtv-users] Nvidia help

This would almost be funny if it wasn't such a mess....

I built a new Myth front end, to go with my new Myth 0.20 server. I
decided to go with an NVidia card as well.

The motherboard is an Asus K8V-X AMD CPU, nice solid board.

I am running debian testing. So....

Every time I try to use the Nvidia driver, X locks up the screen and
keyboard completely. It hands in a 'D' - uniterruptible sleep - state,
signifying a hardware failure.

OK, the NVidia card I got was a no-name, 5200 -based card, so maybe it
was flaky. I got a new Asus 6200 based card, thinking Asus mobo, Asus
card, at least I shouldn't have any hardware issues.

Plug it in, rebuild the nvidia driver, and BANG - X is locked up again.
The system is still running fine, I can ssh into it, eveything is OK -
except that any attempt to access the card results in X hanging.

The lockup looks like a hard lock; the screen is black, the keyboard
won't respond, but the system is accessible from the network.

NVidia support went through their 'try this, try that' routine, and
finally said, sorry, we can't help you. So much for tech support (and
why I *despise* closed source hardware drivers.)

Can anyone provide some help? I would really, really like to get my old
front end out of the living room....

I can provide any and all information....
