I had the same problem, but with a generic Philips brand universal remote. It 
was the fault of the remote, not lircd or irxevent. The remote simply 
wouldn't send the codes any faster than that. Some remotes use longer pulse 
sequences, and others simply throttle the rate you can press buttons. It was 
most annoying.

I bought a Tivo remote on eBay, since I noticed that the one I already had was 
able to send very fast sequences. I simply trained lircd for the new remote 
and the same Myth box now has lightening-quick responsiveness to the remote.

I don't know any thing about that remote, but I suspect it's the cause, not 
lircd or irxevent. In my experience, irxevent has no problem sending 
keypresses as fast as it can get them from the remote, there's just no 
bottleneck there. It's all about the length of the IR pulse sequences and how 
fast the remote will let you send them.
