Not to lessen your argument, but you could always set up an ssh tunnel 
and use *any* web browser.  However, I agree that it would be best not 
to force javascript on users for core functionality.  I usually enable 
javascript myself, but there's always that 1% of the time when I need 
to use Lynx...
