[mythtv-users] IR confusion...

Hi all,

I'm a little confused about the IR terminology. Among other things :)

Okay. An IR reciever is what I need to control MythTV with a remote. Like
changing screens and setting up recording schedules, etc. Easy enough.

An IR transmitter is what I need if I want to control my Digital Cable box
via MythTV. This is otherwise known as an IR blaster, yes? no? maybe?

Since I *do* have a digital cable box that I wish to be controlled via the
MythTV box, what exactly do I need? Of course I need a reciever and
transmitter/blaster. Are these seperate devices? Can I buy one device that
does both transmitting and recieving and works with LIRC?

Finally, do I really have to do some soldering here, or can I buy a
commercial or ready made device that will do the transmitting and recieving?
I've taken a look at IRTrans, it seems to do what I need. Has anyone had any
luck with this device? Avoid it like the plague? Not really what I'm looking
for?

Thanks for any help!

Desmond
