[mythtv-users] Suggestions for mounting multiple drives where FEs use mplayer for MP4s

I am in the process of reconfiguring my MythTV world, so I thought it
a good time to address the following issue:

I currently have this kind of mountpoint setup:
/dev/sdb1 /video1
/dev/sdc1 /video2
...

and all the /video* mountpoints have recordings subdirectories
(/video*/recordings) that are listed in the default storage group in
the backend setup.

In order to make recordings (*.mpg and *.mp4) accessible on FEs where
mplayer/smplayer are used for *.mp4s, I had been thinking of moving
the mountpoints under a common parent like this:

/dev/sdb1 /var/lib/mythtv/recordings/video1
/dev/sdc1 /var/lib/mythtv/recordings/video2
...

I suspect this isn't the right thing to do because then I get into
trouble with the other subdirectories on some of the drives --
/video*/posters, /video*/music, etc.

I made a search through the MythTV wiki, and either there aren't any
suggestions there or I didn't try the magic search string and/or find
the right link to follow regarding how to deal with this kind of
situation.

I hope this isn't akin to asking what the best linux distro is ;-),
but are there any standard recommendations for how to address this?
