there's no reason there can't be sound with DVI these days, especially
as usually when a video card has DVI and hdmi output it's the exact
same electrical signal coming out.

If you use a DVI input on the TV, it's likely they disabled sound.

DVI == HDMI electrically, it's just a different connector.

What happen when you connect the DVI output (that you know work), to
the amp using a DVI->HDMI adapter?

Then try the same setup, but using the same input on the TV that you
know work (but didn't give you sound) (need another hdmi->dvi adapter
again)

do you get signal on the TV then?

Also try connecting your PC via the same hdmi cable to the TV

Try to do so, so at least you'll be able to identify where the problem
lies: the video card, the amp or the TV.

could be your cable also...

BTW, you're better of using the nvidia card over the ATI... it
supports more thing.
