Hi Paul,
been searching for another mail and saw you didn't get your answer, yet

Its useful when you are mixing channels with XMLTV guide and channels
with EIT guide in one video source. (Usually when your XMLTV grabber
does not carry all channels.)
The option enables the active EIT scan which will spider all transports
that carry at least one channel which is configured to get the guide
via EIT. The opposite would be to rely on passively scanning the EIT
while you are recording something on each multiplex.

Mythfilldatabase has nothing to do with EIT.
If you enable the (active) EIT scan on a video source you will have the
EIT scanner running basically all the time, pushing updates and causing
reschedules every few moments.
When you have the active scan disabled you'll just get updates that are
broadcast while you are recording on the transport.
Regards,
Karl
PS: there are some transports that carry EIT for neighbouring
transports, too. Scheduling a 15-30 minute recording on that transport
is enough to update the guide.
