[mythtv-users] Sllghtly-OT: Prebuffering Pauses and Network

Hi,
Hopefully I can get some assistance with this... I am getting lots of Prebuffer pauses when watching m2ts files (either h264 or
vc1). Using the wiki, I have narrowed the problem down to something dealing with my network. Specifically, the pauses go away if I
play the file on the local machine rather than over the network.
My setup includes a combined mythbox with the media on a server box. The server is just a bay of drives (really, just independant
drives connected to a sata raid card - not using the raid part). Each drive is exported by samba (using cifs) and mounted on the
mythbox. I had used NFS in the past, but was running into problems detailed in past discussions on this list.
Here are some benchmark numbers:
smithna at Server:/etc$ iperf -s
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 4] local 192.168.0.150 port 5001 connected with 192.168.0.119 port 47276
[ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 685 MBytes 574 Mbits/sec
iperf -c Server
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to Server, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 16.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 3] local 192.168.0.119 port 47276 connected with 192.168.0.150 port 5001
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 685 MBytes 575 Mbits/sec
Creating a file on the Server:
smithna at Server:/etc$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/JDisk1/test bs=16k count=10000
10000+0 records in
10000+0 records out
163840000 bytes (164 MB) copied, 1.74777 s, 93.7 MB/s
