I believe it just matches based on channel number and source id (which
is used when you've got multiple source, like cable + OTA, 2 separate
satellite systems, etc). If you want to force it to match something
else, you might need to manually set the xmltvid column in the
database (doing that through the mythweb channel setup page would be
the suggested way to do so).

If the channels are exact duplicates, and there is no difference (HD
vs SD or anything) than pick one and delete the others. If they have
different programming and you can't find any info about it in
schedules direct, you might be out of luck. You could try asking them
(or posting in their forums) and maybe someone can help you track the
info down (maybe you get the info from the guide data for a different
cable/satellite company and just fudge it somehow).
