Thanks Cal and Stef,

>I think most video drivers provide a module parameter for controlling
>the dev/video allocations. Assuming the hvr-1800 uses cx23885 module,
>cx23885-video.c has video_nr (video device numbers), vbi_nr (vbi
>device numbers), radio_nr (radio device numbers). For ivtv, it's
>ivtv_first_minor. modinfo <module name> should reveal all.

Cal, I found files with those names in /sys/module/cx23885/parameters/, but I couldn't modify them (as root) even after changing permissions. I wasn't exactly sure what I should do with those files. Also, the contents of video_nr was -1,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1 which i thought was weird.

>You can try to compare the output of dmesg and lsmod with the 2 hardware
>setups to see what's loaded and detected.

Stef, lsmod for the broken FC10 installation (with both cards )didn't contain anything that wasn't in the lsmod for either of the working setups (FC10 with just one card or FC9) with both. I looked through dmesg and I'm not really sure what's going on. One problem I'm noticing is that it keeps trying to load the v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw firmware, so it never loads the v4l-cx25840.fw that is loaded when it works without my hvr-1800 in. I'm posting the FC10 with both cards dmesg output first with * at the beginning of lines that looked to my untrained eye like problems followed by dmesg from FC10 with just the one working card.
