You should try gmail.  It really handles these lists well.  Set it up to
filter to a folder and bypass the inbox.  It puts all the messages in a
thread together and hides the quoted text untill you click on "show quoted
text".  You can also use your own domain name as you can see that I do.  I
have all email that is sent to oldpaloalto dot com and other domains that I
have forwarded to this account.  It also has the obvious advantage of being
web based so you don't have to read it from the same machine all the time.
 It is also easy to trim messages like I did this one.

The only complaint I have is that it is hard to switch back to rich text
once you switch to plain text.
