[mythtv-users] Weird jitter problem

Unfortunately, perhaps unwisely, but I get harrassment from my wife
and kids if things are out of action for too long, I've made a whole
load of updates to my systems at the same time... Nova-T 500 cards in
the backend, latest Centos5 updates, latest v4l-dvb on the front-end and
the new nvidia video drivers, and an upgrade to v0.20.2.
*Sometimes* during recording playback, I'm now seeing very bad jitter on
some recordings only. Even stranger, the jitter will even happen during
the tail end of one programme before the one I actually wanted to
record, stop for the duration of the recorded programme and then start
again after the end.
Neither the front end nor the back end are reporting any obvious errors,
XvMC appears to be working fine. Up until the changes, I'd never
noticed any problems. Both back end and front end are 2.4GHz P4
machines with 1GB+ RAM.
I'm going to see if I can set up another front end to see if the problem
is consistent (my existing "other" front end is an EPIA M10000 box which
seems a bit marginal for performance and probably isn't the best
comparison). I'm also going to try stuff like transcoding the
programme, playing it back outside mythtv on the same box, playing it
back outside mythtv elsewhere, to see what results I come up with.
Any other places I should look/things I should check/ideas about the
cause?
James
