[mythtv-users] Can't get a stable xorg.conf file

98% of my problems over the past 2.25 months has just been trying to  
get my video card setup!  See these two threads to see what I've done

Now I've got an MSI AGP FX5200-TB128LF video card in the computer and  
have removed the PCI FX5200 video card.  The video is almost  
perfect.  I figure that if I can get a stable xorg.conf file, I can  
turn on some modules like "v4l", "glx", etc., and get perfect  
playback.  But, my xorg.conf keeps reverting back to the default.

With the generic 'nv' driver listed in xorg.conf, I get 800x600 and  
640x480 out of my VGA port.  It is connected to an old Apple Monitor:

I have a new Samsung monitor model 931B that I can use for testing,  
but nothing has been stable enough to bother to hook it up.  The  
Samsung is not the final monitor.  I hope to connect the computer to  
a HD projector via DVI.  Would working with the Samsung monitor  
provide me any better environment while trying to build this thing?

Most of the time when the generic 'nv' driver is listed in xorg.conf,  
the computer recognizes the FX5200 video card.  Anytime 'nvidia' or  
'nvidia-1.0-9746', the computer says I have a 'generic card'  
installed.  All the xorg.conf files I've seen on this list have thus  
far been 'nvidia'.  Should I expect to use 'nvidia',  
'nvidia-1.0-9746', 'nv', or something else?

IF I can get X Windows to start with the 'nvidia' driver selected, I  
only get 640x480.  When I go into "Watch TV" in MythTV, I get a blank  
screen.  I can't seem to Escape out of the blank screen other than by  
turning off the computer.  Some threads imply that the reason for a  
blank screen during "Watch TV" is because my sound card is not  
initialized.  On my computer, do not think this is always the case; I  
can hear sound coming from my sound card before launching MythTV  
Frontend.  Is going to System->Administration->Soundcard Detection  
and hearing the cords an acceptable way to determine if my sound card  
is working?  If not, then how should I check for sound card  
initialization?

Should I be able to transplant this xorg.conf into place on my FC6  
and everything work correctly?  Or are there other factors that make  
my video issues unique?

Here are the things I've tried without success:
* Uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia 9746 drivers with yum
* Transplanting the above xorg.conf file
* Transplanting the above xorg.conf file and changing the HorizSync  
and VertRefresh to match my monitor
* I tried building my own xorg.conf file even though I have no idea  
what I'm doing

I am beginning to believe that my problem is with something other  
than my xorg.conf file.  I have attached my latest /var/log/Xorg. 
0.log file below.

This was originally suppose to be my Xmas present to myself.  Well,  
now I'm trying to make it my bday present due in about 3 weeks; would  
that be even remotely possible?
