Refurbs! I hear ya. There's about a half dozen of those bad boys out there
with my name on 'em.

Great! I had read about your driver issues with MythDora and wasn't sure if
it was a distro only issue. I'm really leaning towards Gentoo. But I like
FC4 too. I've had experience with FC2 and 3. I'm not worried about MPEG4
usability issues as I'll almost never burn things to DVD. If I have to, I'll
transcode on those rare occasions. I'll bet I can store a lot of movies/DVDs
to a 2TB NFS/SMB share.

At present it looks like the problem is with FC4, and since MythDora is
partially based on it, it suffers the same problem.

This is not definitive at this point, but that's what it's looking like.

I am certain we will get the matter straightened out sooner or later.

There are many advantages of mpeg4, as you pointed out. Not only less space
required but in the case of network mounts the traffic is reduced. I think
it makes 802.11 more viable for connecting a frontend.

I have a couple of SMC devices that are similar to the MediaMVP but have
wireless networking built-in and can apparently decode mpeg-4. It's on my
list to see if I can get them to work with Myth, but this won't happen
anytime soon.

Perhaps a bit over-priced, I think the Plextors are very nice units. Refurbs
are on the market at reasonable cost, competitive with the PVRs.
