not sure if you can set something that will affect the recording but
on playback in mythfrontend if you hit F it affects those. from
keys.txt in the mythtv source:

- F to rotate between the various Picture Adjustments (Colour, Hue, etc.)
    While Picture Adjustment is on-screen, use Left and Right arrows to adjust.
    These settings adjust the look of the video playback, and are independent
    of the G-key settings used at record-time.

that's about normal for pvr-xxx card.  if you want to change it just
change the bitrate of your recordings.  not sure how much lower than
2.2GB/hr you'll get while keeping a tolerable picture, it reallly
depends on how clean your source is.
