I understand that there is no copy protection on OTA,
but according to the article that I quoted, the
Samsung TV is copy protecting OTA channels that come
over cable because they don't have the appropriate
program ID filters to identify one of two channels.

Two reasons that I want to be able to record from the
TV:
1. Yes, I want to record OTA. I don't want to be
dependent on having cable to record HD.
2. If I someday use a cable card in this TV, I want to
be able to record the cable from the TV's firewire
output.

I am being a bit cheap, since I know I could by an HD
card for the computer for $100-$200, but, why should
I? I also don't have a spare PCI slot for another
card in my ASUS Pundit.
