Not with a functional client that can send as text rather than 
propagating the poster's mistake.  Especially when--as was the case with 
Tim's mail (and your response)--the message is actually a multipart 
message containing /both/ a plain-text and an HTML version.  (In that 
case, any text editor can be used to create the reply to the plain-text 
version--it doesn't even need to know how to convert from HTML to plain 
text.)
