No, only the Apple components need that tool.. VLC doesn't require it,
MythTV doesn't require it, etc. etc. I've burned DVD video discs with  Toast
Titanium and FFMPEG/CDRecord without the Apple componant plug-in.

  To do it you must purchase a $20 plugin from Apple.

Unfortunately so. It gets worse when you learn that QuickTime Pro ($30)
doesn't provide MPEG-2 capabilities, so if you want both, that'll run you
$50.


I thought I would be brilliant about dealing with the fact that
