I have tried several methods of transcoding to/from MPG, and found them
generally slow and sometimes awkward. In the end, I took the easy way
out: a $40 Apex which can read MPGs; later replaced by a $59 Philips,
which also plays Divx.
And just in case you haven't yet tried it: Burn your MPGs as data files.
