I would have thought that the 0.19 frontend needs access to a 0.19
backend - rather than requiring an 0.19 database in thereof itself.
This behaviour is quite disappointing, especially since the symptoms are
so subtle that I have continued to run for several weeks before noticing
a problem.

Yes I do backup the database - but I only keep the dailies for seven
days:(
I didn't make a specific longterm backup prior to adding the frontend:(
What to do? (Rhetorical question as I now see the rock and the hard
place!)
