Load up alsamixer and and look for channels called VIA DXS. If you push the
volume up on those (you may need only the first one) that should help.

If you want to store the settings I do this:

/usr/sbin/alsactl -f ~mythtv/mixer.cnf store

I then have a script like

#!/bin/bash

/usr/sbin/alsactl -f ~mythtv/mixer.cnf restore

Which I drop in ~mythtv/.kde/Autostart/ which means it gets called when the
mythtv user logs in. You could just call it from /etc/rc.local I guess.
