[mythtv-users] Recommendations

Really not to play a 'whose dist is better' game, but the reason I used
Gentoo, is because I have much more success being able to go out and compile
from source (when there isn't an ebuild), than I did with Fedora or what
have you. They adhere a bit more to the 'default'. Now I can use Lirc or
whatever straight from their CVS builds w/o issue.

By too much I meant the install process. Don't know if I feel like spending
24-48 hours compiling everything when I can get most everything running in
about 20 minutes with a different distribution.

I haven't used gentoo for a desktop type project in a while. Mostly
web/mail servers at work that don't need a GUI of any sort so I don't have
to compile X (yes I know you can get precompiled packages, but then what's
the point of using gentoo?).

Gentoo too much? How so? I've got it running fine on gentoo. I hear FC is
one of the easiest to set up due to Jarod's guide, and I've also heard good
things about KnoppMyth, esp. for a first time setup.
However, if you're already a gentoo user, I'd highly recommned that, as in
my slightly biased opinion, the setup on gentoo is even easier (gentoo setup
in general is hard, but if you're familar with that, the mythtv setup part
is pretty painless.)
