Open-Source, or some variation of it. ffmpeg also has a server, as does 
vlc/vls. The problem is in the conversion/encoding, and RealNetworks 
didn't open-source the interesting codecs, so their stuff is largely 
useless, mostly kind of software that has been open-source for long 
before, and developed and maintained in real open-source spirit, not 
under a corporate dogma.
