It is using the http download of files, long these lines
http://backend:6544/Content/GetFile?StorageGroup=xxxx&FileName=yyyy.ts
This works well, even with lots of forward jumps. Whoever designed the 
http server in MythTV did a good job.

LiveTV and playback of recordings in progress are not available at this 
point.
