[mythtv-users] Can't get my projector to work with Myth -- Solved

I got the projector working. The issue was the resolution and a more
powerful 5 volt supply to the HDMI audio stripper.

What I did was changed xorg.conf to add a second metamodes line as follows

    Option "metamodes" "VGA-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, HDMI-0:
1920x1080 +1280+0"
    Option "metamodes" "VGA-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, HDMI-0:
1280x720 +1280+0"

Then I connect the projector and enter xrandr -s 0
Then to switch back to the TV, I connect it and enter xrandr -s 0. I find
it strange that the same command selects 1080p when the TV is connected and
720p when the projector is connected. I do need to issue the command to
switch to 720p when I plug in the projector.

I would have thought I would need to enter xrandr -s 1 for one of these
cases but I guess with the projector it just rejects the first option and
the second one becomes -s 0.

It is a bit strange that I cannot switch to the 720p mode with the TV
connected but if I issue xrandr -s 1 the TV is just disconnected from the
desktop and myth moves to the Samsung. To get it back on the TV, I need to
do xrandr -s 0 and close and open Myth to get it to show up in the correct
location.

If I comment out the 1080p line, the TV will work in 720p so there is
clearly something I don't understand about how X is dealing with this. But
it works so that is the important part.

It would be nice to have an HDMI switch so I don't have to switch the
cables but that is the next step.

Thanks all for your help.

Allen
