What exactly does your cron job do?

Following the first suggestion in this thread I was able to extract the EIT
from Ch4 SD as XML, but my attempts at importing it back into the database
as Ch4 HD have failed so far. I have also tried the
  mythutil --resched
(though not the sql hacking) of another suggestion and the new schedule
data still doesn' t appear.

I feel I' m close but I must obviously still be doing something wrong. What?

Failing that, isn't there a way to say "I want to record on Ch4 HD (a
channel I can tune to) on this day from this time to that time"? I have a
feeling there USED to be a way to say that, though I haven' t used it in
many years; but, much as I searched, I could not find it in the current UI.
