As others have said the 7 day EPG disappeared when CH4 fell out with Freesat.

OK, got that, thanks. Glad to hear there' s an explanation.

For a while I relied on CH4 SD EIT for 7 day information and the EIT for the HD programme being updated just before it was broadcast. That seemed to become unreliable and I subsequently switched to using a daily cron job running mythfilldatabase with xmltv and uk_grab_tv_bleb for just this channel - works fine for me.

What exactly does your cron job do?

Following the first suggestion in this thread I was able to extract the EIT from Ch4 SD as XML, but my attempts at importing it back into the database as Ch4 HD have failed so far. I have also tried the

  mythutil --resched

(though not the sql hacking) of another suggestion and the new schedule data still doesn' t appear.

I feel I' m close but I must obviously still be doing something wrong. What?

Failing that, isn't there a way to say "I want to record on Ch4 HD (a channel I can tune to) on this day from this time to that time"? I have a feeling there USED to be a way to say that, though I haven' t used it in many years; but, much as I searched, I could not find it in the current UI.

My crontab entry is:

05 10 * * * /usr/bin/mythfilldatabase --only-update-guide --sourceid 2 --logpath /home/paul/.mythtv/

I manually edited the mythconverg database using phpMyAdmin which is dangerous however it is sometimes easier if you know what you want to achieve.

In the videosources table I added a row with sourceid=2 and set xmltvgrabber=uk_grab_tv_bleb

In the channel table for the channel 4HD row I set name=satellite and xmltvid=ch4_hd which matches the text in .xmltv/tv_grab_uk_bleb.conf

In .mythtv/ there is a file called satellite.xmltv containing one line with the text ch4_hd

It was a bit fiddly, there are some aging wiki pages which got me started https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/XMLTV and http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/Britain_and_Ireland
