[mythtv-users] Purpose of the recordedseek table?

Dear Mythizens,

I was wondering about the purpose of the recordedseek table. The wiki
says that it is used only in respect of recordings, and that it enables
skipping forwards/backwards as well as enabling correctly reporting the
duration of recordings.

But given that videos seem to not need this table, why do recordings?
