[mythtv-users] MCE LIRC on Raspian

I installed MythTV frontend.28 on Raspian, and all is fairly well.
The next nut to crack is getting my MCE remote to work with Mythtv.

I installed KODI and it sort of works, I think I can get it all working 
right with keymap editor.

But if I exit Mythtv and KODI and go to command line and type irw,
I get no response.  It just hangs, and I have hit many keys on remote.

I think I need to see irw work before I can get Mythtv to work with it.
What guide can I use.  It appears LIRC got installed with KODI.

I am using USB receiver.
