Hot should not typically be a problem (iff the device
is designed for it), but discoloration does raise a bit of
concern. Was it "new" new, or "new to you" new, or
"returned to <seller> and sold as new" new? There
have been more than one person who has gotten a
"new" device that were clearly returns, or refurbs,
and had all the indication that the previous owner
(ab)used the device, perhaps using the wrong
voltage power supply, and caused some issues.
There was one report that a person bought a "new"
new device that was completely empty inside the
plastic case.

In any case, you might want to open a ticket
with SD and ask about the discoloration.
