Thank you all for the input and feedback.  Very much appreciated.  I am 
going to try to find the original remote in the boxes of junk downstairs 
and see if I can still make it work.  I've gotten so used to getting 
lirc working on all my frontends.  I thought I was losing my mind when I 
couldn't get this to work so easily.
