Sadly, this won't get better with out a lot of folks cancelling service, and going public as to the reason why.

Hi All,

Yes I too can confirm that Frontier has turn CCI to copy-once.
I'm on the phone with Frontier Communications right now.
I'm holding out no hope.

I guess I need to find another TV service.
My Cablecard will be useless.
I have a 2 HDHomeruns for OTA.
So, I guess I will be canceling my TV service soon.
Thanks Frontier!!!!!!!

Kevin

I have sent an email to Dave Lieber “The Watchdog” from the Dallas Morning News.

Maybe he will place something in the newspaper.

I have spent over an hour each time with Frontier support. They claim that they are doing nothing different with their cable TV channels streams.

They keep wanting to send someone, $$$, to my house. I know that they have changed the settings, because I can log into my cablecard device and see it on the channels I’m trying to watch.

I have an open source DVR system, www.mythtv.org, that I have used for 12 yrs now. First with DirectTV, then Verizon FIOS, and now Frontier.

It uses multiple sources of inputs for TV. I use two cable cards from Frontier, which stream 3 channels simultaneously.

This has saved me lots money, since renting the cable cards only cost $5 each. I guess from Frontiers point of view, it has saved me too much!

Now Frontier has disabled my ability to use the cablecards, because of an encryption feature that is activated on a per channel basis called CCI protection.

“Copy Control Information (or CCI) is a two byte flag included in <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_television> digital television streams that allows content owners and cable operators to specify how content can be duplicated/used.”

By law, they (cable TV operators) are only required to broadcast freely (no CCI protection), for over the air stations (OTA), like WFAA.

However, cable companies have abused the CCI protection, by encrypting all the stations they provide, even non premium stations, like history channel, SyFy, etc.

This means that you can only watch cable TV on either their DVRs or a TIVO, locking down the market.

I have complain about the this practice to the FCC website, but I don’t expect much help there.

I called Texas PUC and that was a joke. They directed me to the US Gov FCC website.

I’m also going to post this on the mythtv forum.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
