I first became aware of this 'mythical bookmark' when it was applied to 
recordings that I had edited using a cutlist; my script now includes the 
above call to mythutil and display begins at my selected startpoint.

I have a large folder of edit logs, and this point rarely coincides with 
the scheduled start.  I haven't tried any kind of analysis, because it 
would have no global validity.  If you want better control of the 
playback startpoint then edit, establish a bookmark, or skip!
