[mythtv-users] How does MythTV decide whether to turn on a "Default" subtitle in MKV?

Hi-yas,

We tend to watch a lot of foreign movies & TV-shows.

After ripping disks I clean-up the MKVs such that the audio language is
marked (in this case Japanese)
and the subtitle tracks are marked as English, and set as the default.
(with mkvtoolnix-gui)

So in the MKV there is:
1x video track, typically with indeterminate language, or set to Japanese.
1x audio track, marked as Japanese, set as Default
1x subtitle track, marked as English, set as Default, (usually, DVD-sub,
SSA or SRT format - depending if I had to download the sub)

Yet it seems a bit random whether MythTV decides to show the subtitles by
default or not.

And while on the subject of subtitles ~

If you get a subtitle that stays on screen for say 3 seconds, yet during
that 3 seconds a further subtitle appears, the first subtitle disappears for
a split-second, before re-appearing when the second subtitle is painted. Is
there some setting to fix this?

(The canonical example of this is when a street-sign in the video background
is translated first, but then the characters start talking in the foreground).

thanks,
-kt
