The difference with mode2 is that it can capture raw signals. That's
what I've had to do with the remote of my STB (Belgian cableco Telenet).
In my case the purpose was to enable me to control the STB with a
blaster, but I had to start by capturing the signals (which I did using
mode2 and then postprocessed them with itscrutinizer).
