Actually, VHF was tuned by a rotary switch, which selected one stick of
L/C circuits in to tune the channel. UHF had a dial, which swept a gang
capacitor to vary the frequency.
Wow, it's been so long since I worked on one of those, it took a few
moments to recall what they looked like inside!
Yeah, I used to repair televisions, radios, VCR's, laser discs, CD
players and DVD players. I've worked on everything from tube circuits
to VLSI circuits.
Now, I'm happily in IT, where my eyes get a break.  ;)
